Is California Rigging the GOP Primary?
Accusations from Laura Loomer plus Idaho, Florida, Oregon, Missouri and North Dakota updates
Will political fog obscure the 2024 GOP primary in California? Controversial activist Laura Loomer has accused the California GOP of attempting to manipulate the primary to throw delegates to Ron DeSantis and away from Trump. She posted a copy of an email outlining a proposed bylaw that would change the primary from ‘winner take all’ to apportioning delegates according to how they fared in the state primary.
RNC Chair runner-up Harmeet Dhillon, a professed Trump supporter, was cc’d on the email and Loomer accused her of being part of a plan to thwart Trump’s campaign. Dhillon responded on Twitter that nothing untoward was going on. She said Governor Newsom moved the primary and the CAGOP had to adjust their bylaws to reconcile the date change with RNC bylaws.
Loomer’s take was backed by TheConservativeTreehouse’s Sundance and was also featured on Steve Bannon’s WarRoom podcast. Developing…
Missouri Judge Grants Injunction on Government-Big Tech Collusion - US District Judge Terry Doughty stated that “The Plaintiffs have presented substantial evidence in support of their claims that they were the victims of a far-reaching and widespread censorship campaign” in a lawsuit that included President Joe Biden and a number of government entities. They are being sued for a coordinated effort to silence contrarian voices on social media. The effect of the decision has yet to play out but at least some meetings between big tech companies and government officials have been cancelled as a result. Link to case here.
North Dakota Lawsuit Seeks to Prohibit Accepting Ballots After Election Day - ND is one of 18 states that accept mail-in ballots after election day (Idaho does not). The Public Interest Legal Foundation is filing the suit in North Dakota though it has national implications if it succeeds. Breitbart story here and AP story here.
Idaho Caucus - The March Presidential Primary was eliminated due to legislation that passed last session. This has caused the GOP and Democratic parties to scramble to create an alternative or risk losing delegates in their national conventions. The IDGOP announced it will be holding a caucus on March 2nd, 2024 to select a nominee. Details are here.
Idaho Voter Registration Changes - As of July 1st, showing proof of citizenship is required in order to register to vote. Two groups, Babe Vote and the League of Women Voters, are planning to file for an injunction on the new law as it is impacting their ability to register voters. The on-line registration they perform via the Secretary of State’s website went off-line until it can support the new requirement. It is expected to be back up on July 10th. Read more here.
Florida Loyalty Pledge - The Florida GOP will require any candidate that appears on the Florida primary ballot to sign a loyalty pledge that they will endorse whoever becomes the GOP nominee. Trump had refused to make such a commitment in his 2016 campaign and several GOP candidates have already stated they would not support Trump if he became the nominee. Read more here.
Oregon Ranked Choice Voting Moves Ahead - The measure passed the legislature and will be placed on the 2024 ballot for voter approval. If it passes, it will go into effect in 2028.
Oregon Lawsuit to Eliminate Vote By Mail and Electronic Voting Systems Will Appeal to 9th Circuit - The suit cites numerous security concerns and overall public distrust. The suit was dismissed by a lower court.
Another great synopsis of news - thanks Tim - hoping that Idaho doesn’t get RCV or open primaries on the ballot - both are means to undermine the system- and fair elections
Oregon MUST get its elections in order. NO to ranked choice voting in all states. Idaho MUST demand proof of citizenship to vote--all states must.
