More Election Controversy in Michigan
A police report about voter registration fraud from October of 2020 was uncovered. 'Nothing to see here' or 'evidence of election fraud'? Also, updates from Idaho, FL, CA and the UK.
The Michigan Attorney General, Dana Nessel, has been in our news summary recently both for charging 16 people of falsely claiming to be alternate electors for the 2020 election and for charging a few people, including her opponent in the most recent election, of unlawful possession of voting equipment.
Both cases revolve around the notion that there was no fraud in the 2020 election and any assertions to the contrary are disinformation. However, it was revealed this week that a voter fraud case involving approximately 10,000 registrations had been pursued prior to the 2020 election. Nessel acknowledged the existence of the case and a Detroit News Story reported that the culprit was caught and the false registrations did not impact the system. Nothing to see.
But the Gateway Pundit, which uncovered the police report, questioned whether the illegal registration operation was indeed limited to one person. The local law enforcement engaged Michigan State police and then the case was referred to the FBI. Is that normal for a case (see San Joaquin story below) to be referred to the FBI if it is only local in scope?
I found this summary helpful in providing the facts of the case with less bias than the above sources.
Idaho Supreme Court Weighs in on Ballot Initiative - The Court required the Attorney General’s office to make changes in the title and description it provided for the initiative but rejected further changes requested by Reclaim Idaho, the plaintiff. The links to the opinion and summary of the court can be found here. The Idaho Reports story is here where the AG’s revisions can be found. IDGOP statement is here.
FL: Bizarre ‘Blank Ballot’ Research - Researcher Chris Gleason collected tabulator summary reports from a number of counties in Florida (and elsewhere) from the 2020 election and made a remarkable discovery. The percentage of ‘blank ballots’ - ballots with no race selections made at all - made up over 10% of the ballots submitted in some counties. Who would turn in a completely blank ballot? For comparison, one county we obtained the same report from in Idaho showed zero blank ballots. In a video discussing his research, Gleason also stated that each of the counties he found significant blank ballots were counties that Trump had lost. Further, Gleason alleged that voting system manufacturer ES&S had messaged many of their clients to warn them that requests for such reports should be denied as they may compromise sensitive information. There are many questions I hope to track down about this study. Gleason’s article is here. A follow up podcast where he appeared in the first 26 minutes is here.
CA: San Joaquin Sheriff Shares Election Fraud Case Details - Lodi City Councilman Shakir Khan was arrested earlier this year. The Sheriff’s Office shared details of the case with a County Election Committee this past week. Khan’s actions included adding 69 false registrations to the voter rolls and intimidation of multiple voters to obtain their ballots and vote on their behalf in the 2020 election. The Sheriff’s office was also critical of the lack of meaningful security measures in the State’s on-line registration process. The presentation can be viewed here. The Sheriff’s presentation covers the first 50 minutes of the video.
United Kingdom: Registration System Compromised - The breach was detected in October 2022 and hackers had access to millions of voter records since August of the prior year. The UK’s Electoral Commission described the hack as a ‘complex cyber-attack’ but did not identify who the attackers were or which files they accessed. Read more here.
Nicely distilled.
Two things are obvious:
1. The proposal from Reclaim Idaho stinks, regardless of the name you call it! Idahoans, DO NOT fall for this system.
2. Elections in the U.S. and abroad are as safe and effective as certain unnamable shots.
